A British diplomat named John Coast who was in Indonesia at that time wanted to introduce Indonesian culture to America and Europe, so he asked permission from President Soekarno.

After his mission was approved by the President, Jhon Coast met one of Bali’s famous dancers named I Marya and his student, I Sampih.

I Marya refused to do this because she felt she was too old to dance and perform on stage again.

However, John Coast asked him to create a new dance and I Marya was willing to fulfill this wish.

Even though it takes quite a long time to find inspiration and new ideas for the dance movement, in the end the new dance can be completed perfectly.

The first dancers in this dance, namely I gusti Ayu Raka Rasmi for women and I Sampih for men.

The Meaning and Function of Oleg Tamulilingan’s Dance
