In fact, many Indonesian citizens have married a foreign citizen. Bali is one of the places where marriages from different countries are found. Then have you ever thought about how an Indonesian citizen can have a legal marriage with a foreign citizen? Let’s look at the following information, we have summarized what a person needs if he wants to marry someone from outside Indonesia

Documents that must be prepared by a foreigner are as follows:

  • This CNI (Certificate of No Impediment) is a single letter. This letter states that you can marry and will marry an Indonesian citizen and is issued by the competent authority of your own country.
  • Photocopy of identity card from the country of origin of the prospective husband or wife
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Certificate of not being married
  • Divorce certificate if already married
  • Marriage death certificate in case of death
  • Current domicile certificate
  • 4 pieces of 2×3 photographs and 4 pieces of 4×6 photographs
  • Include a certificate of converting to Islam if you are non-Muslim

And the conditions that you must meet to be able to get a CNI (Certificate of No Impediment) from a foreign embassy are

  • Original latest birth certificate
  • Photocopy of identity card from country of origin
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Proof of residence or domicile letter
  • Marriage form from the embassy concerned.

All of the above must be translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator, and then must be legalized by the embassy of the foreign country in Indonesia. If the above are all things that must be prepared from the foreign party, then how and what needs to be prepared by the person who is an Indonesian citizen? Here’s what you need to prepare

Documents that must be prepared by Indonesian citizens

  • Cover letter stating that there are no obstacles to getting married from the village
  • Forms N1, N2 and N4 from the village and sub-districts
  • Form N3 specifically for those who are married at religious Affairs office (approval letter that must be signed by both bride and groom)
  • Copy of ID card
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Data on the parents of the prospective bride and groom
  • Copy of family card
  • Parents’ marriage book (if the bride and groom are the first child)
  • Data of two witnesses to the marriage and a photocopy of their ID card
  • 4 pieces of 2×3 photographs and 4 pieces of 4×6 photographs
  • he latest proof of payment of land and building taxes
  • Prenup or pre-nuptial agreement

Then the following documents will be requested by foreign embassies from the foreigners:

  • Original and photocopy of birth certificate
  • Copy of ID card
  • Photocopies of letters N1, N2, and N4 from the village
  • Copy of prenup (if any)

Well, it would be nice if all the above requirements were photocopied before being brought and submitted to the embassy office as data handles. Because usually the embassy will not return the document. Then after everything is finished and has been prepared, then the next process is to wait for further news from the embassy office.

Indeed, for couples who will marry from different countries, namely between a foreign citizen and an Indonesian citizen, there are a number of requirements that are quite complicated. And this of course will take quite a long time to prepare, this is of course because various documents are needed from both countries. In contrast to couples who are married to fellow Indonesian citizens, the preparation is relatively easy and short because the requirements are not too complicated.
